What is the difference between a Chiropodist/Podiatrist

and a Foot Health Practitioner?

The titles Chiropodist/Podiatrist (and Chiropody/Podiatry) are protected by law and may only be used by those who have completed a BSc Hons degree in Podiatry or grand-parented in 2005 by the HCPC (Health & Care Professions Council) which is the governing body for healthcare professionals. This means that Chiropodists and Podiatrists in the UK are also regulated by law. Misconduct, dangerous or unethical actions can result in sanctions against them or ultimately striking off and being prevented from practicing by the Health and Care Professions Council which also regulates their training etc. ALL Chiropodists/Podiatrists will display their HCPC registration number which begins with CH.

There is currently no statutory regulation for the growing number of Foot Health Practitioners (FHPs) working in the UK, so there is no standardization of their training or proficiency.
